Cosmetic dentistry is a professional oral care method that focuses on improving your mouth, teeth, and smile. Cosmetic dentistry procedures are usually a personal choice rather than a necessity. Nevertheless, some treatment cases also offer restorative advantages. Some of the common cosmetic restoration procedures include dental fillings, teeth whitening, veneers and implants which require more scrutiny and care from the patients as well as the dentist.

Teeth Whitening

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening falls under popular cosmetic dental procedures which is one of the safest and quickest ways to restore your smile. Badly discolored or stained teeth are everyone’s nightmare and are not appealing at all. Therefore, one might consider teeth whitening procedure to transform the discolored teeth into a sparkling smile.

Who will benefit from it?

Habits, like smoking, drinking, having coffee tea or eating too many sweets, can change the color of the teeth. Some people have genetic conditions of having yellowish teeth while using various medications can also make your teeth look yellow or stained.

Teeth whitening is ideal for people who have healthy teeth without any fillings and also have healthy gums. However, we do not recommend this cosmetic procedure for everyone.

What are your options for Teeth Whitening Treatments?

If you wish to whiten your teeth by yourself then you can take home some teeth-whitening kits like whitening toothpaste, whitening strips/gels or whitening mouthwashes.

Or, you can receive a professional whitening treatment from us. A single visit at our dental hospital can de-stain your teeth and give you the brightest smile you always wanted. Your dentist first examines your teeth to make sure they are in good condition.

Then a whitening gel is applied on the gums to protect it and a hydrogen peroxide solution is applied on to the teeth to de-colorize it. The teeth are then exposed to a special bright light that causes oxygen to be released. Stains are lifted off the surface of the teeth and the dentine is whitened.

How long does it take?

On average, the duration to whiten your teeth takes about 30-90 minutes per visit. However, the length of time depends on the amount of discoloration on your teeth.

Midline spacing closure/Midline Diastema

Maxillary anterior spacing is a common aesthetic complaint of patients and it is a popular cosmetic dental procedure. In case you didn’t know, a space between adjacent teeth is called a Diastema. The midline diastema of the teeth is often a normal or developmental occurrence, due to the disposition of the teeth in their bony crypts and eruption path of the cuspids, and to the increase in the size of the premaxilla at the time of eruption of the maxillary permanent central incisors.

What are the treatment options for Midline Diastema?

Before our practitioner can determine the optimal treatment, he or she first considers the contributing factors. These include normal growth and development, tooth size discrepancies, excessive incisor vertical overlap of different causes, mesiodistal and labiolingual incisor angulation, generalized spacing and pathological conditions. A carefully developed differential diagnosis allows the practitioner to choose the most effective orthodontic and/or restorative treatment.

Diastemas based on tooth-size discrepancy are most amenable to restorative and prosthetic solutions. The most appropriate treatment often requires orthodontically closing the midline diastema. In addition, the composite layering technique is also carried out.
