Crown and Bridges

What are Crowns and Bridges?

A crown is a ceramic, zirconium or porcelain-made artificial tooth which is used when the tooth structure is fractured or damaged.

A bridge is a dental appliance that replaces the damaged or missing teeth. They are made with porcelain fused metal to give the tooth strength and a natural appearance.

Who will benefit from crowns and bridges?

One might need a crown if you have the following conditions:
• Severely discolored tooth
• Severely decayed tooth
• Fractured or damaged tooth/Cracked tooth syndrome
• Broken cusps

Also, you will need bridges if your dentures are not stable or if you have a missing tooth.

Are crowns painful?

Crowns are fitted by our expert dentists and prosthodontists and this procedure, the tooth to be restored is filed down and turned into a smaller size. The cavities or the discoloration are removed and a cap-like crown is fitted over the newly shaped tooth and cemented into position.

Unlike other procedures, getting a dental crown is not as painful as the gums are made numb with anesthetics. Following the procedure, you might, however, feel certain sensitivity while chewing, once the anesthesia wears off.

Crowns and bridges can last for about 14 years or longer if you maintain dental hygiene.

How long does it take?

The procedure takes two to three sittings with your dentist.

Veneers

What are Veneers?

Veneers, without a doubt, are a sure-shot solution to help you achieve the smile you desire. Veneers are thin covers, either made of porcelain or composite resin, specifically designed to add to the front of the tooth. The correct dental problems such as discoloration, minor misalignment, chips or cracks. It is also used to reduce teeth gaps and restore worn teeth.

How do veneers work?

At Samaj Dental, our specialized dentist first prepares your teeth by buffing the enamel. This helps the veneer to sit intact on the tooth’s surface. Following this, porcelain veneers or composite resins are placed to fit the tooth.

Porcelain veneers are custom-made and they require to be placed in a position that fits the shape of the tooth and also the color. The veneer is then cemented into place.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers have a wide range of benefits which includes:

• strong and long-lasting
• natural-looking surface
• stainless
• less removal of enamel from the teeth
• wear-resistant

Composite resin veneers, on the other hand, are manually applied one layer at a time and sculpted onto the tooth. A special light is used to cure the resin that makes it hard every year. Finally, the veneers are smoothed and polished to get the desired natural-looking teeth.

Like porcelain veneers, these veneers are natural-looking and stainless but they are not stronger compared to porcelain veneers. However, they can be repaired easily and quickly and they also cost less than porcelain veneers.

How long does it take to place Veneers?

The entire process takes about one to two weeks. The reason is that the dentist needs to take an impression of your teeth to make the veneers which take about one to two weeks. Attaching the veneer takes about an hour or so and a follow-up visit after a few weeks is required to assure the proper functioning and placement of the veneers.

Mouthguards

What are mouthguards?

Mouth guards are tooth coverings, often used to shield teeth from teeth grinding or sports injuries. There are different types of mouthguards available at our dental hospital depending upon your choice and convenience.
Boil and bit mouthguards are made using thermoplastic materials. They are ready to wear ones but need to be placed in the hot water to soften and carefully placed around the teeth using finger and tongue pressure.
Custom-fitted mouthguards are custom-made by an expert dentist. First, your dentist takes your teeth impression and by using special material, he molds the mouth guards over the model impression.

Who will benefit from a Mouth Guard?

If you have certain problems like teeth grinding while sleeping or you get engaged in a lot of physical activities like playing a football, ice hockey, baseball or running or even while performing gymnastics, you need a mouth guard to protect your teeth and jaws. Also, if you have problems like sleep apnea or if you have disorders like temporomandibular joint disorder, your dentist will recommend a mouthguard.

Using a mouth guard will help limit the risk of mouth-related injuries to your lips, tongue, and soft tissues of your mouth and also prevent chipped or broken teeth. Mouthguards can be specially made for you if you wear braces or have dental implants. An effective mouthguard should be comfortable, strong, durable, and easy to wear and cleans and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
